cuspers

the world according to the simpsons [and wikipedia]:

Bart:  Nothing you say can upset us. We're the MTV generation.
Lisa:  We feel neither highs or lows.
Homer:  Really? What's it like?
Lisa:  Ehh. [shrugs]

So what does it do for one's generational identity if your parents blocked MTV??

I never had cable growing up so no MTV for me. I always felt so out of the loop until I started watching it as an adult and realized I wasn't missing much.

yeah, no cable for me growing up either. briefly my junior year in hs, but otherwise not much exposure to it. yay for 3 1/2 networks! (abc only came in fuzzy or no sound most days) that's what you get growing up in the middle of nowhere.
when my best friend's fam moved out to the boonies they had the option of a satellite dish or my friend could get braces. they all opted for the dish.

I wasn't allowed to watch MTV either, or the Simpsons.

okay sooooooooooo... "mtv generation" is just a title. go with "generation xy" or "cuspers" or "buffer zone" or none if you want.

katie was discussing generational identity on her blog... i think it's interesting, as we both feel like neither gen-x nor gen-y. click on "mtv generation" in bart's quote if you're curious to see if you identify... regardless of mtvlessness or not.

tb - ah, but you missed out on the days when they actually used to play MUSIC on mtv. sigh.
