already?!

morning came far too soon today. i fully blame paul and crew for my current state of exhaustion. stupid ice cream and a movie and going to bed at midnight.

confidential to the olive garden crew: if i fall asleep tonight in the middle of dinner, you'll know why.

bass boy

in case i never updated ye olde blog readers: my bass-loving neighbor moved out about a month ago. imagine my surprise at seeing him again... this time in a local paper [the free one, for those in the know].

there was an article extolling [for the most part] the general loveliness of living in a particular nearby town. among many other people, bass boy's girlfriend was quoted as saying she liked living there, moreso than other towns in the county she has lived in. i was SO waiting to read a quote about me. i'd love to have a transcript of the interview.

"so, dude, the last place i lived? there was this uptight chick next door. kept complaining about noise or something. man, she was a #$%^&. i showed her, though. after she complained to the landlord, i just kept stomping around for the rest of the time i lived there! yeah, it was pretty awesome."

ah, justin. i hope you're living in a place where the steady rumble of subwoofers is enjoyed by all. i wish you well; i really do.

but damn, am i glad you don't live next to me anymore.

here in america

"We need the church because it contains the truth (found in the creeds), because it has the songs that teach us about the faith (found in the hymns), and because we need to hear the Word of God, which according to Romans 10, is the means of the faith (found in the Bible). For some, like Rich [Mullins], it also offers us the body and blood of Christ, the spiritual nourishment needed to sustain life. But there is something more we need: we need to see Christ in one another.

God works through many means to reach us, but His primary means is through each other. We carry Christ to one another. As Dietrich Bonhoeffer explained and Rich believed, I need the Christ that is in you, and you need the Christ that is in me. We need each other."

- from Rich Mullins: An Arrow Pointing to Heaven

bought here in america yesterday. will be watching the dvd soon.

update: okay, so i didn't know that the percussion on "screen door" consisted solely of the cup game [play at speed, in quicktime, on loop, to get the idea]. i love that he made a song about a highly debated passage of the bible, and set it to a silly party game. also, i'm now fascinated with the dulcimer. i shall somehow attempt to learn the instrument before i die.

and to think: all the songs that have gone unwritten since 1997.

and i believe that what i believe
is what makes me what i am
i did not make it, no it is making me
it is the very truth of God
and not the invention of any man...
