oh come on

i came back from lunch to a voicemail from a phone book advertiser, stating that it was imperative for accounts payable to call them back by the end of the day, and could you please reference [this] account number when you call?

me: hi, i'm calling back about a voicemail regarding [this] account number.
her: yes, okay, i see... and this is an account for [one of our departments in another town].
me: ah, yeah, that's one of our departments.
her: can you verify the address for [this department]?
me: sure, it should be [official department address].
her: um... no.
me: no?
her: no.
me: uh, okay, then... how about [alternate department address].
her: um... that's not it either.
me: okay? it could be under [old department address]?
her: that's... no. i don't have that.
me: [shuffling through old bills] um, it could be [possibility #1]... or [possibility #2].
her: ah... no.
me: or [possibility #3]?
her: none of those are correct.
me: well, at this point i'm just guessing then.
her: i need to verify this address before releasing information on this account.
me [thinking]: WTF! YOU people called ME!!
me: look, i don't know what to do here. i'm just calling back. i don't know anything about this account.
her: well, i'm sorry i wasn't able to speak with you about this account. have a nice day.

she was very polite. but clearly this was a waste of time for the both of us. i mean, unless there's some sort of health information or secret cure for cancer embedded in this mysterious account for an apparently nonexistent physical location... this shouldn't be that difficult. seriously, what am i going to do, maliciously rack up advertising charges for some random company? ooooo, THAT'LL show 'em.

i'm never getting that time back.

so good

Little Boy Heart Alive
Words and music by Andrew Peterson
[from Appendix A: Bootlegs & B-Sides, 2006]

Open the door and run outside / Your little boy heart alive
Into the morning light / Into the deep and wide

Dinosaur bones in the flowerbed / Rockets in the clouds
In a fight with a spider’s web / Tunnels in the ground

Winding to China / To the mist of the distant shore
Better be home by suppertime / Back through the planet core

Feel the beat of a distant thunder / It’s the sound of an ancient song
This is the Kingdom calling / Come now and tread the dawn

Come to the father / Come to the deeper well
Drink of the water / And come to live a tale to tell

Pages are turning now / This is abundant life
The joy in the journey / Is enough to make a grown man cry
With a little boy heart alive

Kings and castles in the neighborhood / Swords on the forest floor
Dragons in the magic wood / Better saddle your battle horse

Fighting Goliath / Better choose your weapons right
Five little stones and a faith on fire / In a little boy heart alive

Chorus

Met a kid at the railroad track / He had a stick and a nylon sack
I ran to the house to pack / I wanted to follow

Take a ride on the mighty lion / Take a hold of the golden mane
This is the love of Jesus / So good but it is not tame

Chorus

+++++

so i finally got my cd back from paul.

i don't know what it is about that last chorus, but it always catches me off guard when i haven't heard it in awhile. because i'm often not quite able to sing that last part.

i think that too often we forget the boundless power and passionate jealousy and depthless fury of our untamable God.

the love of Jesus is not a force to be reckoned with.

[go here for a small sample from the studio version on the far country.]

experiment

kt and i seared some steak and mashed up potatoes for a party of seven [happy birthday, jeff] on saturday night, and it all turned out pretty damn well, if i do say so myself [note to self: keep recipes]. add some salad, bread and oh my god chocolatey cake from other partygoers and it was a perfect menu. and of course, the wine and port certainly didn't hurt, either.

in other news, i think every day should be sunday. mmmmm, lounging.
