thanks and updates

today i am driving a ginormous ford f250 [thanks, jeff!]. perched on the bench seat, i can see clear to indiana, and i have no idea where the vehicle begins or ends. i feel a little bit ridiculous, although there is a definite "i'm on top of the world" sense going on, which i admit i am enjoying. i wore jeans today because the thought of dressing up and leaping into the cab seemed preposterous. it's convenient that i don't really wear skirts, because it's about a forty-foot drop to the ground, and really, folks: there is no lady-like way to deal with that. paul graciously drove me from the shop back to my apartment at 7:30 this morning [thanks, paul!]. i jumped in the truck, and he called as he was driving away.

"yeah," he says. "that is so you."

update: power window switch is zonked. part will be in tomorrow. anyone need furniture, or grills, or soybeans carted around until then?

also: go visit kt. she's a little older than my blog. good times and interesting conversation were had last night.

open

so my driver's side window has decided, once again, that it is tired and does not want to make the long journey all the way up to the top of the window into its home.

$#@*Q)^$@#W!%!(%*

please do not rain. please just come back to life. please don't steal anything in my car.

lesson

currently in the midst of re-learning how important it is for mdog the introvert to recharge. and how exhausted and cranky i feel when i don't/can't. which is also causing mdog to re-learn how convenient it is to be single sometimes.

turn, turn, turn

this morning, my favorite stoplight was out of commission. amazingly, every lane of traffic took their turn, patiently, in an orderly counter-clockwise fashion, all the way around the intersection. interestingly, this probably shaved about five minutes off of my commute to work. three cheers for major malfunctions.

catch my drift?

so with the advent of my "new" work computer, i now have a sound card again. this morning's music of choice was a revisit of my co-worker's "jagged little pill". apparently i've never listened to some of the lyrics very closely. and by that i mean, i've never been able to understand most of the lyrics, what with all the screaminess going on. anyway, here's a sample from all i really want:

and i am fascinated by the spiritual man
i am humbled by his humble nature

what i wouldn't give to find a soulmate
someone else to catch this drift
and what i wouldn't give to meet a kindred
...
and all i need know is intellectual intercourse
a soul to dig the hole much deeper
...
and all i really want is a wavelength

all i really want is some comfort

i know, i know: here she goes again. but actually i make this entry in bemusement. [it's hard not to, with all the rage-y tuneful shrieking]. the line that really caught my ear was the "someone else to catch my drift" bit. i think that's a great way of putting it, at least for me. throughout the years, past and present, from both males and females, i have gotten comments to the effect that i am a bit of an enigma; that people don't know what to make of me. which, frankly, amuses me to no end.

perhaps it's a form of natural pre-screening process?

hard bargain

so i journeyed to the store today with all intentions of buying a 2GB flash/pen/jump/whatever-you-want-to-call-it drive. i quickly dismissed the 256MB and 512MB drives, as my current storage capacity needs a lot of help... mostly due to use of the digital camera and photoshop.

the first option i noticed was a 6GB pocket hard drive: roughly the size and shape of a very large, flattened yo-yo [complete with retractable usb cord to further the analogy]. only twenty bucks more than the 2GB flash drive i was eyeing, it was under serious consideration. it's not like i was planning on carrying the thing in my pocket or around my neck; i just needed some extra storage. having it easily portable was obviously a draw, but not really necessary. i could deal with the yo-yo.

on the next shelf over and below are the hard drives. an overkill on the storage predicament and out of my price range for sure, my small mind ponders the need for 160GB of storage. and then i see the 80GB external hard drive. more to the point, i see the price on the 80GB external hard drive. apparently i can sacrifice a hefty chunk of portability, gain 74GB of storage, AND save nine bucks over the 6GB yo-yo. i suppose this is all old hat to you tech gurus out there, but i was completely unaware of the prices of all this stuff. and lo, i was amazed.

increase storage by over one thousand percent: check.

don't mind me, i'll be busy backing up files all afternoon.
